The Across Wales Walk

Across Wales Walk The Across Wales Walk is a 45-mile linear route across Wales that participants aim to complete in under 18 hours. It’s considered a classic challenge walking event and will be in its 62nd year in 2025. The route begins at the Welsh border at Anchor and traverses through mid-Powys, crosses Plynlimon, and concludes at Clarach Bay on Cardigan Bay.

The event includes a weekend package with overnight accommodation, transport, refreshments, and a presentation ceremony. The 61st walk was held on September 14th, 2024, while the 62nd is scheduled for September 6th, 2025. The event is organized by volunteers from the Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA). The walk is not endorsed by the LDWA.

One participant described the course as traversing trackless terrain up the highest mountain in central Wales, Plylimon, and the landscape as still and not a well-worn route. Many participants return annually, with some attempting a “double,” starting from Clarach Bay and running through the night to the Anchor Bridge before the official start. In 2020, a limited field of 22 entrants participated due to COVID regulations.
