Leah Atherton

Leah Atherton is a poet and runner originally from South Devon and now based in Birmingham. Her work has been featured by iRunFar magazine, Birmingham Art Gallery and BBC Radio WM. For Leah, the process of creating and taking on long distance challenges are inherently tied, which has led to a happy habit of writing new poems in pretty places.

Her trail exploits have included running the fastpacking the 630mile South West Coast Path solo in 2018, which formed the core of her debut poetry collection, ‘A sky the colour of hope’, which was published by Verve Press in July 2020. She returned to the SWCP in 2020 with the goal of setting a new female FKT which didn’t go quite as well, but was nevertheless an epic adventure. She believes in strong coffee, campfire whisky and the power of muddy shoes.
