John Pucknell 2023

Walking long distance paths is John Pucknell’s passion, the joy of each day being different; morning mists on rivers and lakes, birdsong in the trees, distant views of snow covered mountains, wayside shrines and cornflowers, or a cold beer for a dry throat after a long, hot day on the trail. This explains his membership of the Long Distance Walkers’ Association (LDWA) an organisation for those who walk a little further. He himself has walked across Europe on the E4, a 6,600 mile Ultra Long Distance Path, a trail that deserves to better known, if only to save ancient, stone built mountain villages in Serbia and Greece. So he has written a book on his journey “Six Pairs of Boots: Spain to Cyprus on the E4 Trail”. Such a trip is less difficult than one might imagine if, like John, you walk it in sections over an extended period. Not content with this achievement he is now tackling another route, the E2 from Galway in Ireland to Nice in the South of France, despite an alarming X-ray of his arthritic knee.
